City of New Lights is a tribute to the timeless spirit of skateboarding, filmed across iconic urban landscapes from Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal, San Diego and Seoul. Blending technical street skating with a nostalgic golden oldies soundtrack, this film captures the raw energy, style, and camaraderie of Canada’s rising skate talent. Featuring standout parts from Micky Papa, Ryan Bonnell, Josh Clark, Dustin Montie, Spencer Hamilton, and Chad Dickson. Supported by DC Shoes, LRG Clothing, Underworld Skate Shop, and Color Magazine.
City of New Lights is a personal project born from my love of skateboarding and passion for filmmaking. I created it to spotlight the talented skaters within my own community—friends who represent the spirit and grit of the Canadian skateboarding scene. In an industry driven by a Do-It-Yourself mentality, this project was my way of contributing something meaningful. After some commercial wins, I wanted to push myself creatively and logistically. I handled everything—from budgeting, travel, and brand partnerships to marketing, designing limited-edition T-shirts, and organizing premiere events—all on a shoestring budget. Spanning over a year, this film was a massive undertaking for an independent production, and I’m incredibly grateful for every sore muscle, late night, and sacrifice made by everyone involved.
